Defense Program at ALLIANCE

As part of its Social Responsibility and Outreach Activities, ALLIANCE offers programs for Defense Personnel of different ranks to seamlessly transit to civilian roles. The program, designed and delivered in cooperation with the Directorate General for Resettlement, Ministry of Defense, Government of India, has been received very well by the participants and by the industry. Many of the participants have become entrepreneurs.

The armed forces train people to be highly disciplined, have a respect for time, plan realistically and execute with precision. While these are valuable factors for civilian roles as well, a few more skills are required to fine tune the personality to meld seamlessly either into the corporate world or into the world of entrepreneurship. The objective is to identify the skills that are required in specific cases and to impart them in a manner that would render them amenable to rapid application.

Some wish to become entrepreneurs. They need to learn the risks involved, steps in preparing a business plan, obtaining venture capital and manage the business successfully. Others wish to take up careers in cutting-edge areas like logistics. They need to be trained on the principles and practice of Supply Chain Management. Others wish to take up positions of responsibility in a sector of their liking. They need to be trained in areas such as marketing, human resources, finance, operations, and information systems. In other words, whatever be the aspirations of the candidates, the programs at ALLIANCE are designed to fulfill them.

These programs need to be viewed in the larger context of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) or in our case, Institutional Social Responsibility (ISR). Beyond providing education to young people, we believe it is our responsibility to facilitate the development of a sustainable society. This requires us to develop and deliver courses and programs that address the specific needs of different sections of society. Just as we have Executive Education for Practitioners, Management Development Programs to help managers to be up to date with their knowledge and skills, Faculty Development Programs to improve the quality of engagement in the classroom, the program for Defense Personnel addresses the need of a vital section of society – people who have given their all to the country, people who are responsible for the safety of a billion countrymen, people who exemplify the spirit of sacrifice – and helps them to have a fruitful career on completion of their tenure with the armed forces.

ALLIANCE strongly believes in Institutional Social Responsibility and the program for the Defense Personnel is our humble contribution to the development of a better India.
